A New Era Begins for Park Avenue Landmark

Thanks in large part to Winnipeg-based entrepreneur Blair Grabski, a Lac du Bonnet landmark is under new management and offering the very things it’s become known for, while adding something new and exciting in the process.

The La Verendrye Trading Co. located along Park Avenue has been re-branded as the La Verendrye Trading Co. and United Unlimited. The store held its grand re-opening in November of 2018 with a new concept — offer something for everyone in a format that can only be described as a “mini department store,” according to manager Viki van Sabben.

La Verendrye has operated in Lac du Bonnet for many years. United Unlimited has been a Manitoba-owned company operating a location in Winnipeg since 1971. La Verendrye is known for its selection of fishing, hunting, boating and outdoor supplies and also its selection of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and footwear. United Unlimited offers a little bit of everything for your day-to-day or special occasion requirements.

The company is run by Winnipeg’s Grabski. Grabski has spent three decades in the retail business. When he took over La Verendrye in 2018, he needed someone to manage the business. Enter van Sabben.

The store at 46 Park Avenue in Lac du Bonnet is now split into two. On the main level is the La Verendrye Trading Co., still offering fishing, hunting and outdoor supplies, footwear, as well as women’s, men’s and children’s clothing in a range of brands. Upstairs is the new United Unlimited, offering kitchen and bathroom supplies, children’s toys, supplies for pool parties, pets, household decor, gardening, trinkets for those goodie bags, and more. The store is a kaleidoscope of products at ridiculously low prices.

“We’re keeping the spirit of the La Verendrye Trading Co. that people know so well, and adding the United Unlimited experience,” van Sabben says. “We want people’s shopping experience to be fun. It’s been a great experience to take over the store and the response from the community has been terrific.”

A community fixture for years, the building is one of the most recognizable along Park Avenue. In the spirit of serving the community, store staff took part in the recent Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby. Van Sabben says when stocking new items, she takes time to think about what the community wants.

“We don’t stock things that we know people can’t use. We’re here to serve the public and fill their needs.” Visit unitedwholesaleunlimited.com for info or find them on Instagram or Facebook.
